TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee on Tuesday wrote to Enforcement Directorate over his inability to appear before the agency in the teacher's recruitment scam case. ED had summoned Banerjee to appear before him in the case to which he said that the required documents and information are already with the authorities. He added that he is busy owing to upcoming Panchayat elections in the state which are scheduled to be held on July 8.
"At present, I am not in Kolkata and travelling as part of a statewide yatra to connect with the people of West Bengal. Further, since the Panchayat elections for the state have been declared to be held on 8th July, I am engaged in preparing for the same. Most of the information/documents sought for are already available with appropriate government authorities/departments...," TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee writes to ED' Assistant Director
TMC national general secretary Banerjee is busy with Jan Sanjog Yatra. ED had summoned him today in connection with the ongoing Teacher recruitment scam case.
Earlier on Thursday, ED summoned the Trinamool MP on June 13. After the summons, West Bengal CM's nephew stated that he can attend the ED summons only after the state panchayat elections are over, news agency PTI reported.
"If they (ED) want any documents from me, I will send them to them. But I want to clearly say that for the next month, I have no time to spare for 10-12 hours of questioning. Our program ends on the 16th and the panchayat elections have been announced, which will conclude on the 8th July. They will question me for several hours and the net result would be zero. After the polls get over, if you summon me I will appear before you," he said.
