New Delhi: A BJP worker taking part in a hunger strike led by party leader Gopal Jee Thakur and his supporters against the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar over the delay in construction of Darbhanga AIIMS, fell ill on Wednesday, news agency ANI reported. He was rushed to the hospital. Union ministers Ashwini Choubey and Nishikant Dubey were present at the site of protest when the incident took place.
It is to be noted that the Darbhanga AIIMS issue has long been a serious bone of contention between the Centre and the Bihar government. While the Centre alleged the land provided by the Nitish Kumar government is not suitable for the construction of the premier health institute, chief minister Nitish Kumar hit back saying his government has provided the “best possible” land for the construction of the hospital.
“The land provided by the state government for AIIMS is close to the Darbhanga airport also. God knows why they (the central government) refused the land. It seems they want to delay it. Their intention is doubtful. The land which the state government provided later for AIIMS is the best available land and well connected,” news agency PTI quoted the chief minister as saying.
If the Centre has to construct an AIIMS in Darbhanga, it will have to be built on the land given by the state, CM Kumar added.
Meanwhile, two days back, the stage built for the protest, caved in, leading to some BJP workers sustaining minor injuries. According to reports, BJP MP from Darbhanga Gopal Jee Thakur was addressing the meeting during which the stage collapsed.
