Bhiwandi Building Collapse: 14 Rescued As Ops Continue For 19 Hours, Over 7 Feared Trapped — Top Points

Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde reviewed the rescue operations late at night and gave instructions to officials for safe and prompt operation adding that these incidents need to be avoided beforehand.

Bhiwandi Building Collapse: The rescue operation in Maharashtra's Bhiwandi is underway after a building collapsed here on Saturday killing three people, including a five-year-old girl. Several rescue teams are on the spot while all attempts are being to save any and all survivors in the incident. The state government has already announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh for the kin of each of the deceased and free medical treatment for the injured.

Here Are Top Points On Rescue Operation 

• Rescue operations are underway in Bhiwandi for the last 19 hours after a 3-storey building collapsed here on Saturday.


• 14 people have been rescued so far while around seven people are feared to be trapped.


• A 38-year-old man was rescued on Sunday morning, almost 18 hours after the incident officials said, according to PTI. The man has been identified as Sunil Pisa and was rushed to the IGM Hospital in Bhiwandi.


• As per PTI, the structure which collapsed at 1.45 pm on Saturday at Wardhaman Compound in Valpada area.


• With this, the number of those injured in the incident has gone up to 12.


• Teams of the Fire Brigade, Police, Thane Disaster Response Force (TDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are present on the spot to rescue people trapped in the debris.


• Three have died in the incident and identified as Navnath Sawant, 40, Laxmidevi Ravi Mhato, 26, and Sona Mukesh Kori, 5, have been identified as the deceased.


• Residents were rescued by Thane Disaster Response Force personnel and taken to the Government Upazila Hospital Bhiwandi for treatment. 


• According to an official release, the CM has directed officials to ensure proper coordination among all agencies involved in the search and rescue operations.


• Officials previously stated that teams from the NDRF and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), as well as ten fire engines and personnel from various agencies from Bhiwandi and Thane, were involved in the search and rescue operations.


• Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde visited hospital and inquired about the condition of the laborers who were injured in this accident late at night. The Chief Minister also reviewed the rescue work.


• CM Shinde met Thane Collector Ashok Shingare, Bhiwandi Municipal Corporation Commissioner Vijay Kumar Mhasal, Shiv Sena Thane Rural District Chief Prakash Patil and all other medical officers, doctors and police officers.


• The official Twitter handle of CM Shinde said, "In order to prevent such incidents from happening, it was ordered to vacate the dangerous buildings in Bhiwandi before the monsoons and rehabilitate the residents immediately. As group redevelopment is the only way to deal with such accidents, Bhiwandi Municipal Commissioner was ordered to send the proposal to the government immediately."


• Shinde mentioned that as building accidents happen frequently in Bhiwandi, NDRF team should be stationed in Thane before the coming monsoon so that relief work can be started immediately in case of such an accident. Instructions were also given to the District Collector in this regard.
