Three suspected militants were killed in an encounter in the Cachar district of Assam on Wednesday. A report by PTI said the report was confirmed by a senior official at Assam Police Headquarters in Guwahati.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a post on X, "In an early morning operation, Cachar Police killed 3 Hmar militants from Assam and neighbouring Manipur. Police also recovered 2 AK rifles, 1 other rifle, and 1 pistol."
Three police personnel were also reportedly injured in the operation.
"Some of our personnel also sustained injuries. But we cannot immediately say the nature of injuries. We are yet to receive a report from the Cachar district police," the police HQ official cited above said.
The PTI report said the encounter came after the police arrested three militants from East Dholai Ganganagar on Tuesday night. Their affiliations have not been made public yet.
Police seized one AK-47 rifle, one pistol and other arms from the autorickshaw in which they were travelling. "A police team took the trio to the Bhaban Hills area this morning in search of other rebels. At that time, the encounter happened," the official said.
The three militants were killed in a gunfight that lasted for over one hour.
"The injured personnel have been admitted to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for treatment," he added.
