YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and leader of the opposition YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), has penned a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging severe atrocities against his party members by the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and its allies.
In the letter, shared during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, Reddy detailed a disturbing series of events, claiming that in just one month, 31 people were murdered, 35 people committed suicide, 560 private properties and 490 government properties were destroyed, and 2,700 people were forced to flee their villages.
Reddy further asserted that there have been over 1,050 incidents of violence and attacks. "This reflects the state of affairs in our state under the present dispensation, which is not at all inclined to maintain law and order," he stated. These incidents, according to the former CM, are part of a calculated effort to "suppress" the YSRCP with the intent of eradicating anyone associated with the party from the political scene.
The letter follows the murder of Sheikh Rashid, a YSRCP activist, in Vinukonda. Jagan Mohan Reddy is scheduled to visit Rashid's family today to offer condolences and support.
Jagan Calls For Central Investigation
Expressing grave concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation, Reddy urged for an investigation by Central government agencies into the incidents that have occurred since the recent elections. He emphasized that the state cannot continue under such conditions, claiming that there were no signs of a functioning democratic government. He also highlighted the alleged non-functional state of the constitution, law, and political system under the current administration.
Additionally, Reddy accused the TDP-led government of not allocating postings to 27 IAS and 24 IPS officers for reasons "best known" to them. He suggested that these developments indicate severe administrative lapses and a lack of governance.
Given the severity of the situation, Reddy sought an appointment with Prime Minister Modi to brief him personally on the state’s condition over the past 45 days. He stressed the need for urgent intervention to restore law and order and ensure justice for the victims of these alleged atrocities.
