New Delhi: Indian cricket team's senior wicket-keeper batter Wriddhiman Saha may have emerged as one of the strong performers in India Premier League (IPL) 2022, but that didn't help him get picked in India's squad for England tour. The veteran was informed long before ahead of this year's IPL that the team management had moved on from him and he was no longer involved in their plans. Saha was playing only Test cricket for the Indian team.
In a recent interview, Saha said he will not be picked to play for the national team once again as if he had any chance to make a comeback, his performance in IPL 2022 could have been considered for England tour.
In an interview with Sports Tak, the wicketkeeper said, "I don't think I will be selected going further because already the coach and the chief selector had informed me. And if they had to pick me, after my IPL performance, I would have been included in the squad for England tour. So that decision has been made clear to me that right now, there aren't too many options. But for me, I am focussed towards playing cricket. As long as I love the sport, I will play."
Wriddhiman Saha also talked about his decision to stop playing for Bengal in Ranji Trophy.
"Before the IPL, an incident happened and then and there, I decided not to play for Bengal anymore. Having played so long for Bengal, if someone hurled nasty comments at you, it hurts. I was hurt, personally, and that’s why I decided to change my state. I have talked to a number of states, but nothing is finalised as of now,” said Saha to Sports Tak.
