World Para Athletics Championships: Deepthi Jeevanji clinched India's first-ever gold medal at the World Para Athletics Championships in Kobe, Japan, on Monday (May 20). The star athlete scripted history as she clocked a world record time of 55.06 seconds in the women's 400m T20 category race.

Earlier, Deepthi Jeevanji secured a quota for the Paris Paralympics 2024 by qualifying for the Women's 400m T20 heat final, setting a new Asian record with a time of 56.18 seconds.






India has won three medals so far at the World Para Athletics Championships 2024. In the previous edition of the Games, India achieved a record haul of 10 medals, which included three gold, four silver, and three bronze medals.


World Para Athletics Championships 2024: Nishad Kumar, Preethi Pal help India win its first medals 


India's 200m runner Preethi Pal and high jumper Nishad Kumar clinched a bronze and silver, respectively, to secure India's first medals on the third day of the World Para Athletics Championships on Sunday, May 19.


Tokyo Paralympics silver medallist Kumar cleared 1.99m to secure second place in the men's T47 high jump final. Following this, Preethi Pal contributed to India's medal tally by clinching a bronze in the women's T35 200m final with a time of 30.49 seconds.

In the Men's shotput F40 event, India's Ravi Rongali finished 6th without securing a medal. However, his throw of 9.75 m earned India a quota for the Paris Paralympics 2024.
