Wimbledon 2022: Current French Open Winner and World Number 2, Rafael Nadal saw off the challenge from Lithuanian Ricardas Berankis as he defeated him 6-4, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 on Thursday at the Centre Court of the Men’s Singles event, to progress to the third round of the Wimbledon 2022. The Spaniard dropped 13 aces during the match as he looks forward to bagging his 23rd Grand Slam title.

Elsewhere, Alex De Minaur (19) defeated British Jack Draper after going a set down as he ended the match at 5-7, 7-6, 6-2, 6-3. The Australian played a spoiler for the home crowd as his victory over Draper made sure that he cannot repeat what his compatriot Liam Broady did, keeping the home crowd’s hopes alive of seeing a British win Wimbledon this year, as Liam Broady produced a brilliant comeback and an upset as he knocked out Argentine Diego Schwartzman 6-2, 4-6, 0-6, 7-6, 6-1. The British and the World Number 12’s match lasted 3 hours and 47 minutes as the crowd watched a spectacle before their eyes.

Veterans Richard Gasquet and Nick Kyrgios too progressed to the third round, alongside American Taylor Fritz (11) and Stefanos Tsitsipas (4), but Canadian Denis Shapovalov (11) fell prey to Brandon Nakashima as he lost to the American 2-6, 6-4, 1-6, 6-7.

The day’s play was highly interrupted as the rain showed up and a couple of matches have been suspended and will be played on Friday, July 1. The Men’s Singles suspended matches include the match between the Americans Maxime Cressy and Jack Sock, and the other match being of Dennis Novak and Jason Kubler.
