Wimbledon 2022, Day 2: Wimbledon, every year, produces matches and results to be heard and seen for ages and in this year’s edition, Harmony Tan just did the unthinkable, knocking out probably the greatest ever tennis champion, Serena Williams, a 7-time Wimbledon winner, in the 1st round. The tennis world was in awe with the match these two were putting on as it was an exciting 3-set match where Tan prevailed.

The French woman won the match 7-5, 1-6, 7-6 as she advances to the 2nd round. Serena Williams got a standing ovation at the Centre Court as the crowd acknowledged and respected the comeback match by the 23-time Grand Slam winner.

Elsewhere, Polish World No.1 Iga Swiatek continued her dominance as she makes history by being on the longest winning streak in Women’s tennis history this century. Her streak stands at 36 matches. She progressed to the 2nd round as she made light work of the Croatian Jana Fett. Paula Badosa (4), Coco Gauff (11), Elena Rybakina (17), Simona Halep (16), Petra Kvitova (25), Amanda Anisimova (20), Barbora Krejcikova (13), Jelena Ostapenko (12), Maria Sakkari (5) made sure that top seeds don’t choke and crash out within the first round itself as they all won their respective matches comprehensively.

The only shocks of the day except for Serena Williams were Camila Giorgi’s loss to unseeded Magdalena Frech, and Jil Teichmann's loss to Australian Ajla Tomljanovic.

The Women’s Singles' next action will take place today, starting from 03:30 p.m. IST. Harmony Tan, after her iconic win over Serena Williams, will be one of the most popular players to watch alongside the strongest contender Iga Swiatek, who will be looking to extend her record-winning streak, and many dark horses in the tournament.
