New Delhi: In reply to England’s 537 runs, Indian captain Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane resumed day 4 with an eye on taking lead. England on other hand looked motivated by the late strikes on day 3 which saw Cheteshwar Pujara and Murali Vijay depart.

India lost Ajinkya Rahane in the opening overs and Kohli had a huge mountain to climb. India’s test skipper played a fine shot on the leg side but rocked on the back foot to dislodge the bail and eventually was called out.

Virat Kohli becomes the second Indian captain to be hit-wicket after Lala Amarnath in 1949. The 28-year-old is the 22nd Indian batsman to be dismissed by hit-wicket.

This is not the first time when the Delhi born cricketer was given out in similar fashion. In 2011, India’s tour of England, Virat played a fine knock of 107 runs before he hit the stumps with his foot.

VVS Laxman was the last Indian cricketer to be dismissed by hit-wicket in Test cricket in 2002.
