New Delhi: Talented batsman Venkatesh Iyer is currently being discussed the most among rising young players. No one knew the 26-year-old batter before the second half of IPL 2021.
Kolkata Knight Riders' left-handed explosive batsman Venkatesh Iyer played as an opener in the second half of IPL 2021. During the tournament, he scored 370 runs in 10 matches at an average of 41.11 and bagged three wickets as well.
Iyer made his T20 debut for the national team against New Zealand. He managed to yet again impress everyone with his remarkable batting form in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. Chandigarh bowlers were hammered brutally by Iyer on Sunday morning.
Iyer, who came out to bat in the middle-order at number six spot, scored 151 runs off 113 balls with help of eight fours and ten sixes to power his team Madhya Pradesh to 331/9 in 50 overs. He was dismissed by Sandeep Sharma.
This is Iyer's second century in the ongoing domestic tournament. He had earlier scored 112 against Kerala, 71 against Uttarakhand. Iyer has so far scored 348 runs in 4 Vijay Hazare Trophy matches.
Apart from Iyer's batting heroics, what caught the attention of fans was his celebration dedicated to famous Indian actor Rajnikanth, who is celebrating his 71st birthday today.
Kolkata Knight Riders and BCCI have posted the video of Iyer trying to imitate Rajnikanth's move.
Iyer might get a chance to make his ODI debut for India when they play a three-match ODI series against South Africa in January.
KKR retained Venkatesh Iyer for Rs 8 crore for IPL 2022. Thanks to Iyer's excellent batting performance, KKR had reached the IPL 2021 finals. However, the franchise was defeated by Chennai Super Kings in the final. CSK won the IPL title for the fourth time under MS Dhoni's captaincy.
