Djokovic was in all conquering mode as he registered a dominant 6-1, 6-4, 6-1 over his Bosnian rival to sail into the second round of the grand slam.
The Serbian tennis ace had entered the US Open high on confidence after racking up his 35th Master 1000 title by winning the Western and Southern Open title last week. Djokovic had beaten Milos Raoinic in a three set final at Cincinatti.
Djokovic who has 17 Grand Slam singles titles to his kitty is bidding to win his 18th title and draw closer to Spaniard Rafael Nadal (19) and the Swiss maestro Roger Federer ( 20) in the all time list of most men's singles Grand Slam titles won.

Djokovic who has been giving the top billing in the men's singles draw is the hot favorite to win the title in the absence of his arch rivals Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, both of whom pulled out of the grand slam and added to the growing list of absentees at Flushing Meadows.
Djokovic will Great Britain's Kyle Edmund in the second round after the British player defeated Alexander Bublik in four sets earlier in the day. Djokovic holds a 5-1 advantage in their previous head-to-head meetings.
Djokovic, who is now enjoying a perfect 23-0 in 2020, is the only player in history to win all nine ATP Masters 1000 titles. And now he has claimed them all twice. The 33-year-old also tied Rafael Nadal's record for most Masters 1000 trophies with 35.
Meanwhile, in women's singles final, Azarenka won the title even without swinging her racket as her Japanese opponent Naomi Osaka withdrew citing a left hamstring injury, leaving Azarenka to claim her 21st WTA tour title.
