T20 World Cup 2022: The All-India Senior Selection Committee on Friday named senior pacer Mohammed Shami as Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement in India’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup squad. As per a BCCI statement, Shami has arrived in Australia and will join rest of the squad in Brisbane ahead of the warm-up matches. Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur have been named as backups and will travel to Australia shortly.

India's chances of winning the World Cup trophy in Australia faced a major setback with leading pacer Bumrah getting ruled out of the marquee event due to shoulder injury. The team management has opted for the experience of senior seamer Mohammed Shami, who notably hasn't featured in T20 International cricket for India since the previous edition of T20 World Cup.

However, Shami was part of Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT) who won their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy earlier this year. Shami ended his IPL 2022 campaign being the sixth-highest wicket-taker with 20 wickets in 16 games at an economy of 8.

Rohit Sharma-led team India will begin its highly-awaited T20 World Cup 2022 campaign with a clash against Pakistan on Sunday, 23rd October at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia.
