The 31st seeded star Indian Archer Pravin Jadhav has defeated World No. 2 and Russian Olympic Committee's (ROC) Galsan Bazarzhapov 6-0 in the 1/32 eliminations round of men's individual event to storm into the next round in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics 2020.
Jadhav, the top-ranked Indian archers in the ranking round, showed confidence, patience and great concentration to scored four 'perfect 10s' and five nines each against the Russian.
Jadhav put Bazarzhapov under pressure by scoring perfect 10, twice in the first series to register a 29-27 win. ROC's Galsan Bazarzhapov made two 'perfect 10s' in the first two series of the second set. But in the third series, he performed poorly and could only score seven points. Jadhav took advantage of this and won this set from 28-27.
Bazarzhapov delivered a shoddy performance in the third set as Jadhav registered a comfortable 28-24 victory to win the match. He will face America's Brady Ellison of in the next round. Jadhav failed to progress past the quarterfinals in mixed doubles with Deepika Kumari and in the men's team event.
Earlier in the day, veteran Archer Tarundeep Rai's journey at Tokyo Olympics 2020 came to an end in the Men's Individual Round of 32 match. After the match was tied 5-5 after 5 sets. The final outcome was decided by the shoot-off against against Israel's Itay Shanny where Taruhndeep could manage only 9.
