West Bengal: TMC Chief & West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee today announced that Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwari would contest from Shivpur in the West Bengal election starting later this month. 


The Chief Minister today released a list of 291 candidates which includes 50 women, 42 Muslim candidates. No candidate above 80 will contest from Trinamool Congress, CM mamata Banerjee announced.



Tiwary, who was last seen in action in January in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, had joined Trinamool Congress (TMC) in February, in Mamata Banerjee's presence.


After joining the party, Tiwary had said: "BJP is playing divisive policy and Mamata Banerjee is trying to unite people together. When I play cricket, I play for the country, not on the basis of religion".


On Twitter, he also shared a link to his political profile on Instagram. "A new journey begins from today. Need all your lovesupport. From now onwards this will be my political profile on Instagram," he tweeted.


Manoj Tiwari has played for national squad in the one-day international (ODI) and T20 format. The 35-year-old has also played for Kolkata Knight Riders, Kings XI Punjab, and Rising Pune Supergiants in the Indian Premier League (IPl). He has been the captain of the West Bengal cricket team and has played for India in 12 ODI’s and three T20I’s.
