New Delhi: Charulata Patel, the 87-year-old lady who is regarded as the superfan of the Indian cricket team passed away on Monday (January 13).  Patel, whose official Instagram page goes by the name ‘Cricket Daadi’ first confirmed the news of her demise. Patel had captured nationwide attention after she was seen watching the Indian team play in last year’s World Cup.

ABP News has learnt that Patel passed away on the 13th of January, because of old-age related factors.

Her official Instagram page confirmed the news of her demise in a post. “It is with a heavy heart that I inform you, our beautiful grandmother took her final breath on 13/01 at 5.30pm.”

“ She was such a sweet little lady, it's true 'small things come in small packages' our Dadi was a delight, she was/is truly extraordinary. She was our world. I want to thank you all for making her feel special last year, she loved the attention,” the post read.

The account also thanked Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for making her feel extra special.

“A big thank you to @virat.kohli you made her feel extra special, meeting you and @rohitsharma45 was the best day of her life (she told us this on multiple occasions). May Lord Shiva bless her atman always, please all say a prayer,” it said.

The BCCI took to twitter to offer condolences. "#TeamIndia's Superfan Charulata Patel ji will always remain in our hearts and her passion for the game will keep motivating us. May her soul rest in peace," it posted.

During a match between India and Bangladesh on July 2, Patel grabbed eyeballs as she was seen cheering for the team. Sitting in her wheelchair, she was blowing a vuvuzela.

Her enthusiasm was lauded by Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who even went to seek her blessings after the match.

"Also would like to thank all our fans for all the love & support & especially Charulata Patel ji. She's 87 and probably one of the most passionate & dedicated fans I've ever seen. Age is just a number, the passion takes you leaps & bounds. With her blessings, on to the next one," Kohli had tweeted with pictures of him seeking her blessings.
