Harare: A young and inexperienced India took on Zimbabwe in the first ODI of the three-match series at the Harare Sports Club on Saturday. Winning the toss, captain MS Dhoni decided to bowl first against the hots.
Indian fast bowlers – Dhawal Kulkarni, Barinder Sran, Jasprit Bumrah -- provided a good start by clinching early wickets and putting Zimbabwe batsmen under pressure. Their good work was followed by spinners – Axar Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal – to keep Zimbabwe batsmen under extreme control.
Indian bowlers bowled so well that Zimbabwe could score just 91 runs in 30 overs. This is the lowest ODI score by any team against India in the last 10 years.
To keep opposition under such a tight leash in modern cricket is a brilliant effort by this young team. Dhoni and selectors must be happy with their bowlers’ efforts.
