New Delhi: All the major cricket teams around the world have announced their squads for the upcoming T20 World Cup to be played in UAE and Oman and now the name of Sri Lankan cricket team has also been added to the list.


The island nation on Sunday announced a 15-member squad for the marquee event, and have named Dasun Shanaka as their captain. Also, Dhananjay de Silva has been named as the vice-captain of this team. Last time Sri Lanka won the T20 World Cup was in the year 2014.


"The following squad was selected by the Cricket Selection Committee to take part in the ICC Men's T20 Cricket World Cup 2021, which will be played in UAE and Oman from 17th October to 14th November 2021," Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said in a statement.



"The squad was approved by the Minister of Youth and Sports Honorable Namal Rajapaksa," it added.


The Sri Lankan selectors have included senior players like Dinesh Chandimal and Kusal Perera in this team. The team's new mystery spinner Mahesh Thekshana has also been rewarded for his brilliant performance. Nuwan Pradeep will lead the fast bowling in the team.  As the teams are allowed to have four stand-by players due to the COVID-19 restrictions, the team has selected Lahiru Kumara, Binura Fernand, Akila Dhananjaya and Pulina Tharanga as reserve players.


Sri Lanka Squad: Dasun Shanaka (c), Dhananjaya De Silva, Kusal Janith Perera, Dinesh Chandimal, Avishka Fernando, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Charith Asalanka, Wanindu Hasaranga, Kamindu Mendis, Chamika Karunaratne, Nuwan Pradeep, Dushmantha Chameera, Praveen Jayawickrema, Lahiru Madushanka, Maheesh Theekshana.


Reserves: Lahiru Kumara, Binura Fernando, Akila Dananjaya, Pulina Tharanga.
