New Delhi: Even as the BCCI is gearing up for staging IPL in the UAE, considering it to be a safe destination, the world rugby, the governing body of the sport, thinks otherwise and has cancelled their premier event to be staged in the UAE. World Rugby announced the cancellation of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in Dubai. The combined men’s and women’s event were to take place from November 26 to 20.
Meanwhile, World Rugby also announced the cancellation of the Seven Series event in Cape Town, which were to be held from December 4 to 6.
The IPL governing council is set to meet on Sunday to discuss the modalities of the league. The BCCI has already got the nod of the sports ministry and is waiting for clearance from the MEA and the Home ministry before working out the finer details and briefing the franchisees on the required protocols.
