Los Angeles: The 'BlacKkKlansman' director Spike Lee paid tribute to Lakers legend Kobe Bryant on the red carpet at 2020 Oscars, wearing a Laker’s themed purple Gucci suit with Bryant’s number, 24, stitched into the lapels and the back of the jacket. Bryant played his entire career - two decades - with the Lakers. His untimely death sent shockwaves throughout the world, with global sports icons and basketball fans saddened by the news.

"Tribute, honour, homage," Lee said of his suit on the red carpet. "We all miss him. I'm presenting tonight but at the same ... I wanted to represent. I want to do both tonight."

Frequently hailed as one of the greatest basketball minds' of his generation, Bryant was a five-time NBA champion, 18-time All-Star and a two-time Olympic gold medalist.

The 92nd Academy Awards turned out to be a starry affair as several leading Hollywood celebs attended the gala event.
