Vinesh Phogat has sealed her place in the Women's 50kg freestyle wrestling semifinal. While Phogat was up against a world champion athlete and the reigning Olympic champion Yui Susaki in the pre-quarterfinal which was her first bout of her Olympic campaign, the 29-year-old, recovering from a surgery, did the unthinkable by stitching a 3-2 win over the Japanese.
She was then up against Ukraine's Oksana Livach in the quarterfinal. It was another tough bout against the 2022 World Championshis bronze medal winner. However, Phogat stayed strong after taking a lead and eventually went on to win the match 7-5 at the Paris Olympics on Tuesday (August 6). The win has helped her storm into the final four and she is now certain of playing a medal bout- either the gold medal bout or a chance to compete for the bronze.
