PM Modi on Vinesh Phogat: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the occasion of India's 78th Independence Day, gave a wonderful speech to the Indian contingent who participated at the recently-concluded Paris Olympics 2024 from his residence in New Delhi. During the speech, he applauded the efforts of the athletes and congratulated the medal winners.

However, one moment that grabbed everyone's eye-balls was his praise for Vinesh Phogat, as he lauded the wrestler by calling her 'Desh ki beti'. He also added that Vinesh has made India extremely proud by becoming the first-ever Indian Women wrestler to feature in an Olympic final.

Vinesh Phogat Fails In Her Appeal Of Winning The Silver Medal

Vinesh Phogat was fighting against the odds by appealing in the Court of Arbritration for Sport (CAS) against the decision of IOC (International Olympic Committee) and United World Wrestling (UWW), as she was disqualified from the final of the Women's Freestyle 50kg on ground of being 'overweight'.

Upon the official weigh-in, Vinesh Phogat was found oerweight by merely 100 grams, and as per the rule books of UWW, the Indian wrestler was legally disqualified from the event.

This decision led to Vinesh Phogat finishing last in her event, and the prospect of winning a sliver medal faded away with it.

Vinesh Phogat might not be awarded a medal, but no one can deny the fact that the 29-year old produced one of the most historic runs in all of sports at Olympic Games, as her journey to the final saw her eliminate the world number 1 and Olympic champion.
