New Delhi:  When India takes on England in a three-match ODI series starting from January 15 at Pune, it will have a new captain, as MS Dhoni has decided to step down.  Here is the list of records that Dhoni achieved during his tenure as India captain.

Most experienced captain (in terms of matches)

Including Tests, ODIs and T20s, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has led India in 331 matches, the most by any captain in the world. Dhoni has led India in 60 Tests (6th most), 199 ODIs (3rd most) and in 72 T20Is (the most).

Highest serving Indian captain (in terms of matches)

Dhoni is the highest serving Indian captain across all formats. Only Sourav Ganguly and Mohammad Azharuddin come close to his tally of matches as Indian captain.

Only captain to win three ICC Trophies

Mahendra Dhoni is the only captain in the world who has lifted three different ICC trophies-- the 50-over World Cup (2011), T20 World Cup (2007), and Champion Trophy (2013) .

Most Successful Indian captain 

Dhoni has captained India in 60 Test matches. With a win percentage of 45% he has won 27 matches as captain, making him the most successful Indian skipper. In his 199 ODIs as captain India won 110 and he led India to victory in 42 T20 matches among the 72 he has led.

1st captain to make India No. 1

India became the No. 1 Test side under Dhoni for the first time in 2009 and held that position for as long as 21 months before being toppled by England in 2011.
