LIVE SCORE | INDIA vs ENGLAND | 3rd TEST | DAY 3

MOHALI

FULL SCORECARD

India are well on top here after stumps on day 3! Brilliant cricket by the hosts as England are still trailing by 56 runs and have already lost four crucial wickets. Earlier, their lower order took them past the 400-run mark. Handy knocks by Ashwin, Jadeja and Jayant Yadav gave India a crucial 134-run lead.

Stumps on Day 3

#WICKET Ravichandran Ashwin to Ben Stokes, OUT! DECISION OVERTURNED! Stokes has to go. Nicely tossed up around off, Stokes tries to play it off his back foot but misses and the ball brushes off the pads and goes towards third man. There is a big appeal for a leg before but the umpire says leg bye. India think for a while, Kohli doesn't look interested first but eventually takes a review. Replays show there is no bat and the ball tracking technology shows it's pitching in line and impact is in line and the ball would have gone to hit the off stump. Stokes starts walking back and Kohli keeps his finger on the lips. Stokes did the same earlier when he removed the Indian captain.

End of Over 33 (4 runs)

ENG : 75/3

Joe Root 33 (86),  Ben Stokes 5 (9)

#WICKET Jayant Yadav to Jonny Bairstow, OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Bad luck, Bairstow. This one stayed really low! Landed outside off, Bairstow tries to play it off his back foot as the ball stays very low, kisses the outside edge and Parthiv takes a good low catch behind. Jayant Yadav removes the in-form batsman. The umpire had no hesitation in raising the finger there. Big wicket!

End of Over 25 (5 runs)

ENG : 53/2

Jonny Bairstow 6 (21), Joe Root 29 (60)

#WICKET Ravichandran Ashwin to Moeen Ali, OUT! Ashwin gets another one! This one's flighted on off, Ali comes forward and tries to hit it down the ground. He doesn't time it well at all and skies up in the air. Jayant Yadav gets under it near mid on and takes a safe catch. Moeen Ali departs, Ashwin gets his second and England slip further and still trail by 95 runs.

#WICKET Ravichandran Ashwin to Alastair Cook, OUT! BOWLED 'EM! Nicely tossed up ball around off, Cook plays for the turn but this one goes straight on. It goes through his defense, beats the inside edge and rattles the timber. Ashwin is pumped up and Cook can't review this one. Big wicket for India!

8.6 overs: Ravindra Jadeja to Alastair Cook, It is a brilliantly bowled delivery by Jadeja which is angling into the pads and Cook is unable to judge it. A loud appeal and the umpire denies it. Virat Kohli directly does up for the review. It looks an interesting call. The replays show that the ball was pitched in lime and the ball was really turning a lot which in process was missing the stumps.

3 overs: England 9/0. Alastair Cook 6(11), Joe Root 3(7)

UMESH YADAV will bowl from the other end. Haseeb Hameed has not come out to open the innings because he was hit on his hand earlier. But, since it is an external injury he can walk to bat at any time. That is why Joe Root has opened the innings with skipper Alastair Cook.

2nd Innings

Pretty good batting effort by India to get a handy lead of 134 runs. They were under pressure at one stage when England removed Kohli and the score was 204 for six. After that Ashwin and Jadeja shared a crucial partnership and then Jayant Yadav joined in to extend the lead. Earlier Pujara and Kohli hit fifties each and got out as England bowled well yesterday.

#WICKET Ben Stokes to Umesh Yadav, OUT! The ball pitches just outside the off stump and Umesh Yadav knicks it straight to the keeper which brings to an end of the Indian Innings. That was lose from Umesh Yadav though.

#WICKET Ben Stokes to Jayant Yadav, OUT! That's a commentators curse which did not work his way. All his luck went in vain when his hard hit slog sweep on the leg side went directly to Moeen Ali who pounced on the opportunity standing on Mid on. A well played knock of 55 comes to an end.

Maiden Test fifty for Jayant Yadav

Ben Stokes to Jayant Yadav, That's a very well played fifty for Jayant Yadav. Pitched outside off and Jayant Yadav drives it towards the deep cover fielder. A beautiful knock which involved some beautiful shots and a composed knock.

#WICKET Adil Rashid to Ravindra Jadeja, OUT! Jadeja holes out! He'll have to wait for his international century! Fullish ball outside off, Jadeja comes down the track and looks to go big, this time he doesn't time it that well and the ball goes high up in the air. Woakes gets under the ball near long on and takes a safe catch. Pretty good knock nevertheless, came in when India were under pressure. India lead by 98 runs.

The pitch hasn't offered anything at all and the English bowlers have been rather ineffective. They haven't hit the right areas and when they have, haven't done so consistently enough. Stokes was the only one to scalp a wicket but even he, including others, has been poor. India will look to bat on as much as possible and probably counter-attack post-lunch. Remains to be seen how it unfolds. Join us in a short while for the second session.

A good session for India. They've managed to score 83 runs in the session for the loss of just one wicket. Ravichandran Ashwin was the only one to depart and that too was a soft dismissal in hindsight. But Jadeja continued the good work and along with Jayant Yadav, stitched an unbeaten 53-run partnership to give the home side a lead of 71 runs.

End of Over 107 (1 run)

IND : 339/7

J Yadav 22(36), R Jadeja 60(130)

End of Over 100 (2 runs)

IND : 320/7

#WICKET Ben Stokes to Ravichandran Ashwin, OUT! The bowling change works and it's played out according to plan. All that protection in the off side has worked its magic. Fuller length delivery outside off, Ravichandran Ashwin leans across and drives it uppishly square on the off side. It's straight towards Buttler at backward point who dives low to his left and takes a good catch. Ashwin's gritty yet superb knock has come to an end.

End of Over 91 (1 run)

IND : 291/6

R Ashwin 64(103), R Jadeja 44(80)

End of Over 88 (5 runs)

IND : 287/6

R Ashwin 63(93), R Jadeja 41(72)

We are all set to get things started as the players and the umpires have made their way out in the middle. It will be the overnight batsmen, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, to continue with the bat. They will attempt to take India to a lead of somewhere around the 100 mark. Chris Woakes will be taking the ball first up. Let's roll...

It was a day of momentum changes as India wrestled back the initiative towards the end after England's heroic fight. Having bowled out the visitors quickly in the first hour, one would have expected the hosts to take advantage but the tourists fought hard, taking 6 Indian wickets before the duo of Ashwin and Jadeja stood firm. They have added 67 for the 7th wicket and have brought the deficit to a bare minimum. The plan for the home side would be to bat for as long as possible, ideally till Lunch at least. Will they be able to achieve that? Or will the tourists swing the momentum again? Hello and a warm welcome to the third day's play of the third Test between India and England in Mohali.
