New Delhi: India women's cricket team opener Shafali Verma's remarkable batting performance powered her squad to a emphatic 7-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the final ICC Women's T20 World Cup group fixture played at the Junction Oval at Melbourne on Saturday.    


Shafali scored a quick-fire 47 off just 34 balls as India remained unbeaten in the group fixture. The star opener provided the opening salvo stitching a breezy 34-run partnership with fellow opener Smriti Mandhana.

Shafali, who is yet to score a fifty in the tournament, is the second highest run scorer in the T20 WC tournament with 161 runs.

Former batsman VVS Laxman, who is a panelist for Star Sports, and his former team mate Virender Sehwag both hailed the youngster on Twitter.

"4 wins in 4 matches and the girls giving plenty to cheer about. Radha Yadav was outstanding with the ball and Shafali Verma continued her dream run. Wishing @BCCIWomen the very best for the semis #INDvSL," said Laxman.
