In a significant setback for the Gujarat Giants (GG), promising talent Kashvee Gautam has been forced to withdraw from the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 due to an injury.  The young cricketer made headlines in December 2023 when she emerged as the most expensive uncapped player in the history of the Women’s Premier League. Gujarat Giants secured her services with a hefty investment of INR 2 crore, recognizing her potential as a fast-bowling all-rounder.

Unfortunately, an injury has sidelined Gautam, meaning the team would not be able to make use of her cricketong talents in the 2024 season of the WPL set to get underway on February 23. To fill the void left by the young sensation, Gujarat have named Mumbai's Sayali Sathgare as her replacement. Sathgare had plied her trade for the Smriti Mandhana-led Trailblazers in the Women’s T20 Challenge in 2020.

Kashvee Gautam Among 10 Players That Gujarat Included In WPL Auction

Gautam was one of the 10 players that Giants managed to include at the Player Auction. She was purchased along with other players Phoebe Litchfield, Meghna Singh, Trisha Poojitha, Priya Mishra, Lauren Cheatle, Kathryn Bryce, Mannat Kashyap, Veda Krishnamurthy and Tarannum Pathan. Meanwhile, she is not the only Giants who will be missing this year's WPL. Gujarat will also be without the services of Lauren Cheatle who opted out of the tournament due to a skin cancer procedure. Lea Tahuhu of New Zealand will replace Cheatle in the team. Gujarat Giants will play their campaign opener against defending champions Mumbai Indians on February 25 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Gujarat would want to have a better season this year after finishing at the bottom of the points table in 2023, managing just 2 wins from their 8 matches at a net run rate of  -2.220. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) also had two wins but a better net run rate of -1.137.
