Indian Premier League (IPL) broadcaster confirmed the news of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) stalwart Dinesh Karthik's retirement from the tournament with a social media post following RR vs RCB IPL 2024 Eliminator contest on Wednesday (May 22).


Royal Challengers Bengaluru's journey in IPL 2024 comes to an end following a four-wicket defeat against Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator.


RCB, who qualified for the playoffs after defeating five-time champions CSK, were on a six-match winning streak. However, this impressive run came to an end against Rajasthan Royals.

Following RR vs RCB Eliminator match, as Dinesh Karthik was walking back to the dressing room, he received a guard of honor from his RCB teammates. The wicket-keeper batter accepted the crowd's applause and took off his gloves, signaling his retirement from the IPL. Following this heartfelt moment, teammate Virat Kohli warmly hugged the veteran.


Though Dinesh Karthik has yet to make an official announcement, IPL broadcaster Jio Cinema took to social media to confirm his retirement from the tournament. 






Dinesh Karthik, who made his debut in the inaugural season in 2008, has so far amassed 4842 runs in 257 IPL matches, remaining unbeaten 50 times. This right-handed batsman has scored 22 half-centuries, with his highest score being an unbeaten 97. Over his IPL career, Karthik has hit 466 fours and 161 sixes. Additionally, he has taken 145 catches and executed 37 stumpings.

Throughout his IPL career, Karthik has played for several teams, including Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Gujarat Lions, and Kolkata Knight Riders.
