Indian cricket team former captain MS Dhoni has made many records in his cricketing career and at the Dubai International Stadium, the two-time World Cup winning skipper attained yet another major milestone as soon as he stepped on the ground to lead Chennai Super Kings against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

CSK skipper MS Dhoni on Friday became the player to play most matches in the history of IPL. And in the process, he left behind Suresh Raina, who recently withdrew from the tournament. CSK's veteran batsman Raina is not playing in IPL 2020 due to personal reasons this time and this is why Dhoni got an opportunity to surpass him.

Dhoni played his 164th match for Chennai on Friday against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He played 30 matches for Pune in 2016 and 2017. Today's game against Hyderabad was Dhoni's overall 194th match in the IPL.

Under Dhoni's captaincy, Chennai Super Kings won the IPL three times, while Rohit Sharma has led Mumbai Indians to win IPL title four times. Chennai team has also reached the IPL final record eight times in the tournament.

Raina took to Twitter to congratulate Dhoni, saying he was sure that Chennai Super Kings will win this season.

This season, Dhoni will also become the first to play 200 matches in the IPL, and he is now 6 matches away from attaining that milestone, while his team has yet to play 10 more matches in the league stage.

The record of playing the most matches for a single team is in the name of Indian captain Virat Kohli, who has played 180 matches for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
