Former all-rounder of team India, Irfan Pathan, found himself at the receiving end of heavy trolling on social media from fans of Hardik Pandya after he criticized the Mumbai Indians (MI) captain for 'making too many mistakes on the field'.
Pathan, in his post on X (formerly Twitter), defended Jasprit Bumrah but slammed captain Hardik Pandya following MI's 4-wicket loss to Lucknow Super Giants in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match on Tuesday (April 30).
The former Indian cricketer highlighted a notable contrast in Mumbai Indians' performance between the last IPL season and the current one. He pointed out that Mumbai managed to qualify for playoffs during the previous IPL season, despite the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, one of the most crucial players in MI squad.
However, this season, even with Bumrah's availability, Mumbai Indians failed to deliver, leading Pathan to attribute their struggles to poor on-field management by Hardik Pandya.
Pathan posted on X, "The team mumbai Indians that qualified last year didn’t had Jasprit Bumrah but this season they had his services. Still they are in this situation. Purely because the team wasn’t managed well on the ground. Too many mistakes by their captain Hardik Pandya. It’s the truth."
Here's how some fans reacted to Pathan's opinion on X...
Mumbai Indians (MI) almost out of IPL 2024 Playoffs race
With just four matches remaining in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season and a current record of 3 wins and 7 losses, Mumbai Indians' chances of clinching a playoff berth appear exceedingly slim. MI currently have 6 points. Winning all four games would help them attain 14 points, still two points less of the desired 16-point mark.
