Mohammed Shami replacement in IPL 2024: One-time Indian Premier League (IPL) winners Gujarat Titans (GT) on Wednesday (March 19) announced replacement for injured Mohammed Shami for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. The veteran pacer underwent surgery following unfortunate injury during the ODI World Cup.


As per the announcement made by Indian Premier League (IPL) on X (formerly Twitter), Shami, ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 tournament due to his ankle injury, will be replaced by pacer Sandeep Warrier in the Gujarat Titans (GT) squad.

Mohammed Shami continues his recovery from injury. With an IPL experience of five matches thus far, Warrier joins the Gujarat Titans (GT) squad with a price tag of Rs 50 lakh.


"Gujarat Titans (GT) named Sandeep Warrier as replacement for Mohd. Shami while Mumbai Indians (MI) added Kwena Maphaka to the squad as replacement for Dilshan Madushanka for the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Shami – the veteran Indian pacer – recently successfully underwent surgery for his right heel problem and is currently recovering. His replacement, Sandeep Warrier has so far played 5 IPL matches and will join GT for his base price of INR 50 Lac," the IPL governing body stated in a media statement.






Also, Mumbai Indians (MI) have signed U19 World Cup sensation Kwena Maphaka of South Africa in place of Sri Lanka's Dilshan Madushanka. 


"Meanwhile, Dilshan Madushanka was ruled out of TATA IPL 2024 due to an injury. Kwena Maphaka – the left-arm pacer – represented South Africa at the recently concluded ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup and was named the Player of the Tournament. He will join MI for his base price of INR 50 Lac," it added.


Gujarat Titans (GT) begin their IPL 2024 campaign with a match against five-time winners Mumbai Indians (MI) on March 24 in Ahmedabad.
