New Delhi: IPL 2022 Mega Auction will reportedly take place in the month of February and developments related to the cash-rich tournament are unfolding one after another.

The toughest challenge for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is to conduct the tournament in a safe environment.

Keeping in mind the well-being of cricketers, supporting staff and other stakeholders amid Covid-19 scare, BCCI wants to hold the marquee event in India without any spectators i.e inside empty stadiums, but only if the COVID-19 subsides in the country, board president Sourav Ganguly told ABP News.

A report in news agency ANI, suggests that the likely venues for the mega tournament are Wankhede Stadium, Cricket Club of India (CCI), DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai & Pune if needed.

"IPL 2022 will be held in India and the tournament will be staged without crowds in attendance. Likely venues for IPL 2022 are Wankhede Stadium, Cricket Club of India (CCI), DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai and if needed, we can look at Pune as well," BCCI source told ANI.

Meanwhile, BCCI announced the list of players that have registered for IPL 2022.

The list includes 1214 players (270 capped, 903 uncapped, and 41 Associate players) out of which 318 are foreign players that have registered for the Mega Auction 2022. Out of these 1214 players, 217 can be picked by the franchises to play in the IPL 2022.
