New Delhi: Ex-Indian cricket team head coach Ravi Shastri and ex-India cricketer Suresh Raina are set to be part of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 as commentators, Jagran reported.

Raina, who did not find any buyers in IPL 2022 mega auction and went unsold, won't feature in the IPL for the first time in his career. Some players have been either ruled out or were forced to pull out of the tournament because of different reasons but despite this, no franchise included Raina as a replacement.

Ravi Shastri, who stepped down as team India's head coach after the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021, will return as a commentator for the first time since 2017.

“You all know that Raina won’t be a part of the IPL this time but we somehow wanted to link him with the tournament. He has a massive fan following and there is a reason why he is known as Mr. IPL. As for Shastri, he was part of the Star Sports English commentary team. But he didn’t commentate after the final of Champions Trophy in 2017 as he became India’s head coach,” an IPL source said while speaking to Jagran.

Ravi Shastri will be seen doing commentary in Hindi for the first time in IPL. The veteran, who mostly does commentary in English, has done commentary rehearsals in Hindi to get a better command of the language, Jagran quoted a source as saying.
