New Delhi: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain KL Rahul (103 runs off 60 balls) scored his second hundred against Mumbai Indians (MI) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match on Saturday. The star batter smashed the Mumbai bowlers all over the Brabourne Stadium to script history. KL Rahul was absolutely flawless with his stroke-making in his 100th IPL match. He scored his IPL career's third ton off just 56 balls, scoring his first century in IPL 2022.
With this, Rahul became the second player to score a century in IPL 2022. Earlier, Rajasthan Royals' Jos Buttler had scored a ton in this year's IPL. Rahul scored the third century of his IPL career and second against Mumbai Indians.
Also, he became the first player to score a century in his 100th IPL match.
Apart from his record-breaking hundred, KL Rahul managed to grab attention of fans with his unique 'shut the outside noise' celebration, which went viral on social media. He celebrated his ton against Mumbai Indians (MI) by covering his ears and closing his eyes. Rahul had pulled off the exact same celebration after scoring his ODI ton against England at Pune, last year.
Reacting to KL Rahul's celebration, ex-India skipper Sunil Gavaskar said," This is something which I do not understand. He is shutting down the noise but when you have got a hundred, you want to take in the applause. He should do this when he has scored four, five, six runs but when you got a hundred, take it out enjoy the applause everybody is applauding you," said Gavaskar to Star Sports.
Last year, when commentators had asked Rahul about his celebration, he had revealed that it was to 'shut out noise'.
“It (the celebration) is just to shut out the noise, not to disrespect anyone. There are people out there who try to pull you down, at times you need to neglect them. So that’s just a message to shut out that noise,” Rahul had said.
