New Delhi: The 15th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 is all set to start on March 26, Saturday. For the first time ever in the history of the cash-rich T20 League, the tournament will feature 10 teams. All 10 teams will play 14 games each. Following the same old format, each team will play once against four teams and twice against five teams. Once all matches in the IPL 2022 league stage get over, the top four teams will make it to the playoffs.

The standings of teams in the IPL points table are based on the points each team has. ‘Net Run Rate’ (NRR) is considered when two teams have the same number of points at the end of the league stage. Here are the rules for an IPL team to gain points in IPL 2022 Points Table:



  • 2 points are awarded to the team for a win

  • 1 point is given to the team if the match ends in a no result or gets abandoned

  • A team gets no points if it loses a matchIn case a match ends in a tie in the regulation 40-overs, the result of the game will be decided by a Super Over.


What Is The Points Distribution System In IPL 2022 League Stage?


The winner of each match will be awarded two points, while one point will be split between teams in case of a no result (abandonment) in the game.


What is NRR in the IPL standings?


NRR or the Net Run Rate is the difference between the run rate achieved by any team and the run rate conceded. More the NRR, better for the team. During the end of league stage of IPL, teams are forced to calculate NRR points and try to win the match by a large margin to improve NRR.


How to calculate NRR?


To calculate NRR, the total runs scored by a team to the total overs faced' to 'total runs conceded by the team to total overs bowled.' in the same tournament.


The teams which finish third and fourth on the points table will clash in Eliminator 1. The winner of Eliminator 1 moves into Qualifier 2, where they take on the losing team from Play-off or Qualifier 1 for a place in the grand finale.
