New Delhi: Indian Premier League (IPL) new team Gujarat Titans all-rounder Rahul Tewatia feels he needs to take more responsibility when he comes out to bat in the upcoming 15th season of the league.

Gujarat will start its campaign in IPL 2022 with a match against Lucknow Super Giants on March 28. Tewatia, who made headlines in last year's IPL for his ability to hit huge sixes, was bought by the Gujarat team for a jaw-dropping INR 9 crore in IPL 2022 auction.

When asked about his role in the team, Tewatia said in the press conference, "The role will remain the same, which is in the middle order. From the batting point of view, Hardik Pandya and I are in the team and we have to take a lot of responsibility and at the same time we have to play in Mumbai and we have to stick to our planning in bowling. In IPL, the batsmen at No. 6, 7, and 8 play an important role as they mainly play the role of finishers."

Tewatia said, "As you said, the role of an all-rounder is important. Those playing at numbers 6, 7, and 8 have a more important role, they have less time and more chances to make an impact.  It is an important role and we can put the team in a good position.  If we bat first then we try to score runs fast in the last over and if we are chasing we try to figure out how to get the team to the target and prepare accordingly."
