New Delhi: Australian cricket team's former spinner Brad Hogg is highly impressed with Delhi Capitals star batsman Shreyas Iyer. The legendary leg-spinner heaped praises on Shreyas Iyer and said that he can go on to become future captain of the Indian cricket team.

Under Iyer's captaincy, Delhi had managed to make it to their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) final of IPL 2020. Iyer joined the Delhi squad after recovering from an injury he had sustained during India vs England ODI series. However, even after his return, Delhi Capitals management decided to stick with Rishabh Pant as captain for UAE leg of the tournament.

“He's come back from injury, he is under a lot of pressure, he did not get picked in the main T20 squad for India. The one thing that I saw in the press conference was that I'm thinking this guy could be a future leader for India,” Hogg said on his YouTube channel.

After playing his first match post returning from injury, Shreyas Iyer played an unbeaten 41-ball 47 run innings against Hyderabad. Thanks to his innings, Delhi defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 7 wickets. The next match of Delhi Capitals will be against Rajasthan Royals in Abu Dhabi on September 25. Delhi Capitals are currently placed at the top IPL 2021 Points Table.

"It was just the way that he went about the processes with his own game. He does not get too far ahead of himself. He's got his routines and processes that he goes through and he does not go away from that," Hogg added.

"That's why Delhi Capitals have been at the top of the ladder, because of players like Iyer, who know their role in the team, being a team man and not being upset that Pant is continuing the captaincy role after he had it previously. He puts his team first," the leg-spinner said.
