New Delhi: New Delhi: The second phase of IPL 2021 is all set to begin in just a few days. Ahead of the marquee event, Delhi Capitals decided to retain Rishabh Pant as skipper despite fit-again Shreyas Iyer's return. Cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra said he's not pleased with the decision.

"Rishabh Pant is the captain. It's OK but personally I didn't like that decision. You decide on one captain, appoint him, he stays with you for 2-3 years, takes the team to the final, he gets injured, you bring in a stand-in captain and then you say let's stay with the stand-in; 'Because he's doing well in international cricket, Shreyas, you can wait'," Chopra said in a video uploaded on his Youtube channel.

"Ideally that's not the right thing to do but it is what it is," Chopra added.

Chopra, however, expressed confidence that the Delhi Capitals team will reach the semi-finals this time as they have to win just two matches out of the remaining four matches in the second leg in UAE.

It is believed that the decision to choose between Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant had put Delhi Capitals in a tough spot but the management finally decided to continue with Pant as the captain, as he led the team to the top position in IPL 2021 Points Table before the tournament was postponed due to Coronavirus.

Delhi Capitals on Thursday officially named Pant as the captain for the remaining IPL 2021 season. Pant was earlier named captain during the first leg of IPL 2021, when regular skipper Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the tournament due to injury.  Shreyas Iyer, however, has now recovered and returned to the team to play in IPL 2021 Phase 2.
