That year, the team benefited from this change and reached the final of the IPL for the first time. The team could not win the title in 2010 but since then they have emerged as the most successful franchise in IPL history.

As per a Mumbai Indians press release their new jersey "captures the composition of the 5 basic elements of the Universe - Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Sky."

Defending champions Mumbai will aim to create history in IPL 2021 as they have a chance to win the IPL title three times in a row.  If Mumbai succeeds in doing so, they will become the first team to win the IPL title three times in a row.

Mumbai Indians had won the IPL for two consecutive years in 2019 and 2020.  Last year, Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai became the second team, after Chennai Super Kings,to successfully defend the IPL title.  Mumbai won the IPL for the fifth time by defeating Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020 Final.

The five-time IPL champions are a strong contender to win this year's final.  Important players of the team like skipper Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishaan Kishan and Krunal Pandya are in superb form. All these players have batted remarkably well in ODIs and T20 series against England.
