New Delhi: Team India's senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has a chance to script history in the ongoing India vs South Africa three-match Test series.

Ind vs SA Boxing Day Test started today at the SuperSport Park Stadium in Centurion. In the series, veteran off-spinner Ashwin will have a chance to attain many milestones. Ashwin has a chance to become the world number-1 bowler and all-rounder. In Ravindra Jadeja's absence, Ashwin will aim to contribute with the bat as well.

R Ashwin can surpass Kapil Dev to become India's second successful bowler in Test cricket

35-year-old Ashwin is just eight wickets away from becoming the second highest wicket-taker for India in Test cricket. Ashwin has so far taken 427 wickets in Test cricket.  If Ashwin managed to take 8 more wickets in the three-match Test series, he will surpass Kapil Dev's tally of 434 Test wickets.

Ashwin has so far taken 30 five-wicket hauls and seven 10-wicket hauls in 81 Test matches. The senior off-spinner holds the record for the fastest 400 Test wickets. Legend Anil Kumble (619 wickets) currently holds the record for taking most wickets for India in Test cricket.

R Ashwin has a chance to leapfrog Harbhajan, attain unique record vs South Africa

Harbhajan Singh, who recently announced his retirement from international cricket, has taken 60 Test wickets against South Africa while Ashwin has taken 53 Test wickets against South Africa so far.

If Ashwin takes eight wickets in the ongoing Test series, he will become the third Indian bowler to take maximum Test wickets against South Africa, leaving Harbhajan behind.  Anil Kumble (84 wickets) and Javagal Srinath (64 wickets) are in the top two positions in the elite list.
