India skipper Virat Kohli scored a hard-fought fifty in Ind vs Eng second ODI at the MCA in Pune to break former South African captain Graeme Smith's record and join an elite list for ODI captains, spearheaded by Aussie legend Ricky Ponting.


During India vs England first ODI, Virat registered many batting records.


During his 56-run innings, run-machine Kohli had completed 10,000 runs as a batsman on Indian soil. Earlier, only Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar was able to pull off this miracle on home soil.

When Virat Kohli powered his personal score to 41 in the Ind vs Eng ODI, he surpassed former South African captain Graeme Smith in the list of most ODI runs by a captain.


As a captain, Smith scored 5416 runs in ODIs and captained South Africa in 150 ODIs.


Virat Kohli, in the 24th over of Ind vs Eng second ODI, surpassed Graeme Smith's tally of 5,416 runs as captain in ODIs. Virat (5,417) has played 93 ODIs as the Indian cricket team captain.


Speaking of scoring the most runs as a captain in ODIs, the record is held by former Australia captain Ricky Ponting. Ponting was the captain of Australia in 234 ODIs and scored 8497 runs.


If Virat Kohli scores a century in the Ind vs Eng second ODI, he will be able to equal Sachin Tendulkar's record of 20 ODI centuries on Indian soil. Apart from this, Virat also has the chance to complete the most centuries in ODIs as a captain.
