New Delhi: Indian opener KL Rahul has been fined 15% of his match fee by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Saturday for "showing dissent" with the umpire's decision. During team India's second innings, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul stitched a solid 83-run partnership for the first wicket.

In the 34th over, England's James Anderson departed KL Rahul for 46 runs as the Indian batsman was caught off behind the stumps by Jonny Bairstow. The on-field umpire initially declared KL Rahul not out after which England took a review and the third umpire declared him out as the replays showed an edge. KL Rahul looked unhappy with the decision as he walked off.

There was no need for a formal hearing as Rahul accepted the sanction and admitted the offence proposed by ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. This is his first offence in the last two years.

As per a media release by the ICC, Rahul breached Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel and one demerit point will also be added to his disciplinary record.
