New Delhi: Talented young batter Mayank Agarwal has been included in the Indian Test squad for the fifth and final Test match against England, BCCI reported. Senior batter Rohit Sharma tested positive for Covid-19 during the practice match against Leicestershire. Suspense remains on whether or not, the all-format India captain will play the only Test match in Birmingham from July 1. Meanwhile, BCCI announced that Mayank Agarwal will fly to Birmingham to join the Indian contingent.
Team India leads the five-match England-India Test series 2-1 which started last year. The final Test of the series was abandoned after Indian camp reported a positive Covid case. Now, the final Test will be played from July 1. The suspense over whether Rohit Sharma will be available for this match remains constant.
BCCI informed in a press release on Monday that Mayank Agarwal has taken a flight to the UK. However, the board did not clarify whether Rohit Sharma will play in that Test match or not.
The press release from BCCI showed Covid positive Rohit Sharma still as India skipper. Most likely, if Rohit tests negative before the final Test, he will play the match and be seen captaining.
After Rohit tested Covid positive during practice match, Jasprit Bumrah replaced him as captain. It is highly likely that if Rohit misses the final Test, then Bumrah will take over the command of the team. KL Rahul is already out of this match due to injury. In Rohit's absence, Mayank Agarwal will open the innings with Shubman Gill.
