New Delhi: Following a humiliating 5-0 defeat in the ODI series at the hands of Kiwis, Virat-led team India will look for redemption when they take on New Zealand in the two-match Test series, starting Friday.

The first Test between the two teams will be played at Basin Reserve in Wellington. Indian cricket team's record at the venue has not been good as they have won just one Test match out of the seven Test matches played at Wellington so far.

It was under legendary cricketer and former captain Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi’s captaincy, India last won a Test match in Wellington in 1968 - which was also the 1st ever Test played at the venue. Since then, they have lost four Test games while two matches ended in a draw at the venue. India have only won just one Test (under Pataudi’s captaincy) out of seven Test matches played at the Wellington so far.

Virat Kohli Looks To Emulate Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi’s 52-Year-Old Unique Feat

If team India - under Kohli's captaincy - defeats New Zealand in the first Test to take an unassailable lead, then skipper Kohli will emulate Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi’s 52-year-old feat in Wellington.

Overall, India have won just five Test games out of 23 Tests they have so far played in New  Zealand.

Virat Kohli Tells Why India Can Succeed in Test Series Against New Zealand

Ahead of the series-opener at Wellington, India skipper Virat Kohli is confident to succeed.

“We have prepared in a manner where our fitness levels and concentration levels are such that we can compete against anyone in the world,” Kohli said. “That’s the kind of confidence we will carry into this series.”

“They’re very skilled bowlers and batsmen and brilliant fielders so they don’t give a lot to bank on or pounce on. You need to be wary of the chances that come your way and be focused enough to capitalize,” said Kohli.
