Virat Kohli-led Indian team will be locking horns with Aaron Finch-skippered Australia in the opening game of the 3-match ODI series at the Sydney Cricket Ground in a short while from now.

Toss Update: Australian skipper Aaron Finch won the toss and elected to bat first against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Team Updates:

Australia - Steve Smith, who was rested for the series against England in September replaced injured all-rounder Mitchell Marsh in the Playing XI

India - India have gone in with 5 specialist bowlers in their Playing XI. They have three quality seamers in Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami and Navdeep Saini. Frontline spinner Yuzvendra Chahal will resume spin duties with Ravindra Jadeja. Mayank Agarwal will open the innings with seasoned opener Shikhar Dhawan in Rohit Sharma's absence.

Recent Form

While Australia head into the series after a 2-1 win over arch rivals England in their last ODI series, India's last 50-over format engagement against South Africa in March got cancelled due to the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic.

India have enjoyed a good run against Australia in the recent one day international matches contested between them, winning the last bilateral engagement 2-1 at home and also beating the Aussies in the round robin stage of the 2019 ICC World Cup held in the United Kingdom.

Here is what the skippers had to say

Aaron Finch - We will bat first. Great to have cricket back in Australia, to play in front of crowds will be nice. The wicket looks good, hopefully, we can put runs on the board and defend. Steve Smith is back, he replaces Mitchell Marsh.

Virat Kohli - It's important to start well as a team, we need to start strongly and set the momentum for the matches ahead. The preparations have been nice, we got some valuable time (on account of the quarantine). Mayank Agarwal will open - Manish Pandey, Shubman Gill, Shardul Thakur, Natarajan and Sanju Samson are the five players missing out
