New Delhi: On behalf of Assam Rifles, Haflong Battalion of Headquarters 21 Sector AR under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) honored ace India sprinter Hima Das at NL Daulagupu Stadium Haflong on Sunday, ANI reported. Assam Rifles honored the legendary sprinter and national record holder Hima Das, Arjuna Awardee & DSP of Assam Police, on her visit to Dima Hasao for promotion of sports. As per a report in ANI, Hima Das' felicitation ceremony was attended by 28 schools of Dima Hasao, cabinet minister Nandita Garlosa and other sports authorities of the district.


"It was an opportunity for Assam Rifles to encourage sports which can develop society and direct the youth in the right direction thereby resulting in a comprehensive nation-building process," said a statement from Assam Rifles, ANI reported.


"Miss Hima Das has taken the baton ahead for her generation from the greatest sportspersons of North Eastern States and she has an image which every generation after her will try to emulate," added the statement.


In the 2018 U-20 World Athletics Championships in Finland's Tampere, Hima Das became the first Indian to win a gold medal at the championship. The ace Indian sprinter also holds the record of winning two golds and a silver in the 2018 edition of the Games. Hima Das still holds the national record in 400 m racing, having completed it in 50.79 seconds in the 2018 Asian Games.

PM Modi felicitated the Indian athletes as he hosted them at his residence after CWG 2022.


Hima Das expressed her elation at being honoured by PM Modi for her performance at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham with sprinter Hima Das giving the traditional Assamese gamocha.


Hima wrote on her Twitter handle, "Elated to receive blessings from our honourable Prime Minister - Shri @narendramodi Ji, by virtue of Commonwealth Games 2022. Fortunate to have presented him with our traditional gamcha, wrapped with immense gratitude from all of Assam."
