Baku:  Defending champion Lewis Hamilton won the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and registered his first win of the season following a retirement of Valtteri Bottas due to a tyre problem,  with only  2 laps to go due to a punctured tyre on Sunday.

Ferrari's Finnish driver Kimi Raikkonen and Force India's Mexican driver Sergio Perez came second and third respectively.

Sebastian Vettel who acquired the pole position on Saturday started the race in a disappointing manner as he lost his position to Mercedes driver Bottas and looked like finishing in the position but a collision between Red Bull teammates  Ricciardo and Verstappen changed the dynamic of the race.

The German trying to grab the opportunity to the 1st position tried a vicious overtake from the inside only to have a lock-up which forced him into the fourth position.

Bottas, on the other hand, was very impressive from the start of the race and deservedly was in the first position. Luck was surely not on his side as debris from the Ricciardo and Verstappen crash created a problem for the Finnish and had to retire from the race with only two laps to go.

This win was much-needed for the Mercedes as this gave their driver Lewis Hamilton the first position in the driver's championship with a four-point lead.

Mercedes still is second in the constructor's table and are behind by four points. The next race will be held on 13th May in Barcelona.
