Ustad Zakir Hussain was born on 9 March 1951 in Mumbai. He is the son of the great table maestro Ustad Allah Rakha. Zakir Hussain was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2002 which was presented to him by APJ Abdul Kalam, the then President of India. Zakir belongs to the Punjabi Gharana of the tabla-playing tradition. He has been learning to play pakhawaj since he was a three-year old child.

Sachin Tendulkar posted an old image with Zakir Hussain and wished the maestro on his birthday on Twitter. In the image, Sachin is seen giving Hussain a mini-bat while Hussain is gifting Sachin a pair of mini-tablas. In the post, he wrote: “Happy birthday Maestro @ZakirHtabla! May you continue to create magic through your Tabla & take Indian Classical music to even greater heights.”

Actually, Sachin and Hussain’s relationship is not a new one. Both have been sharing a close bond since a long time. In 2017, the duo was seen on the same dais doing a tabla performance. Here is the video of that event:

Zakir Hussain doesn’t believe in performing at private functions, corporate events, etc as he feels that music should be the sole purpose of the event.

Sachin Tendulkar is currently in Raipur playing the Road Safety World Series for India Legends team.
