New Delhi: Former England captain Michael Vaughan has questioned Virat Kohli’s place in the upcoming T20 World Cup squad over his poor form. Vaughan, in a discussion with Cricbuzz, talked about various Indian players during the discussion. Kohli’s dry run continues as he merely managed 12 runs in two T20I’s played against England.
"It’s Virat Kohli that the big question mark is about. When he’s at his best, he gets in. But, there are going to be big question marks over Virat the next time he plays T20 cricket if these players keep producing the magic when they come into the side," said Michael Vaughan.
Vaughan was also full of praise for Delhi southpaw Rishabh Pant, and KL Rahul once he comes back to squad after recovery.
"I am just looking at how India would juggle all these players into the final XI for the World Cup. KL Rahul will come back in. Rishabh Pant, DK, one of them will have to keep. I don’t think both of them will play. I want Rishabh in because he’s left-handed," said former England captain.
India started the series on a dismal note as they succumbed to defeat in the fifth test at Edgbaston but bounced back in the T20I series as they defeated England 2-1. Bhuvneshwar Kumar looked sharp as his swing prowess was on show in the first two T20I’s. Elsewhere, Suryakumar Yadav’s emphatic ton in Nottingham went in vain as India fell short by 17 runs, in the process, missing out on a clean sweep over England.
Virat’s form will be the biggest sign of worry as one of the greatest batsman in the history stands on the edge and a possibility of missing out on T20 World Cup.
India will play their next match against England in the first ODI of the three-match ODI series, starting on July 12 at The Oval.
