New Delhi: On Monday, Lionel Messi alongside Argentina team reached Doha, Qatar to take part in the upcoming FIFA World Cup. The Argentina team participated in an open practice session at the Al Nahyan Stadium on the same day.
Lionel Messi’s team are placed in Group C of the World Cup alongside Saudi Arabia, Mexico, and Poland. They will start off their campaign against the Saudis on November 22. Argentina's second match in the World Cup will be against Mexico and then four days later, they will clash against Poland on November 30.
35-year-old Lionel Messi, aging but still regarded as one of the greatest footballers ever in the history of the much-loved sport, will lead Argentina in his fifth and most likely his last World Cup.
Argentina have won the World Cup title twice, in 1978 and 1986. Three times Argentina finished second in the World Cup (1930, 1990, and 2014), and with Messi, they have a great opportunity to clinch the title for a record-extending third time. Argentina winning FIFA World Cup 2022 will serve as a tribute to legend Diego Maradona, who passed away last year at the age of 60.
"I don't know whether we are big favorites or not, but I believe Argentina is always a favorite for its history, what it means and even more now for how we got here," Messi said in a recent interview.
