Zakir Hasan Etches Name In Unwanted Records Book In IND vs BAN Kanpur Test

Zakir Hasan of Bangladesh created an unwanted record in Tests after he became the first victim of Akash Deep's bowling on Day 1 of the IND vs BAN Kanpur Test.

India are up against Bangladesh at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur for the second IND vs BAN Test of the two-match series. After losing the first Test by 280 runs in Chennai, Bangladesh looked resolute when they came in the middle of the ground to bat in the Kanpur Test. However, their fortitude was tested by Indian pacer Akash Deep who bagged the first wicket of Day 1 by removing Bangladesh opener Zakir Hasan. Interestingly, by getting out to Deep, Hasan also etched his name in an unwanted records book.

Zakir Hasan of Bangladesh recorded an unwanted record on the first day of the Kanpur Test as he registered the slowest-ever duck by an opening batter against India in Tests.

Hasan scored 0 of 24 deliveries before getting out to Akash Deep, who was bowling his first over of the match. Hasan’s 24-ball duck is also the slowest duck by any batter in the top seven of a team’s lineup against India in Tests.

Hasna surpassed Australia’s Shaun Marsh, who registered a 21-ball duck against India in Pune during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2017.

Akash Deep Provides India Early Breakthroughs

Bangladesh, after losing the toss, were put in to bat first by the Indian captain Rohit Sharma and their batters did well to withstand the opening burst of Indian pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. However, Akash Deep was introduced in the 8th over of the day and he continued his red-hot form in Tests and delivered India their first wicket of the Kanpur Test by removing Zakir Hasan.

He bagged another wicket in his third over of the spell as he sent another Bangladesh opener Shadman Islam back in the hut.
